Answers to the questions funeral home directors ask in their first week.
What federal regulations does PrepRoom cover?
PrepRoom covers the four federal standards that OSHA and the FTC most commonly cite in funeral home inspections: 29 CFR 1910.1048 (Formaldehyde), 29 CFR 1910.1030 (Bloodborne Pathogens / BBP), 29 CFR 1910.1200 (Hazard Communication), and 16 CFR Part 453 (FTC Funeral Rule). State mortuary board requirements vary — PrepRoom's state-aware data model flags obligations for all 50 states so you know exactly what your jurisdiction requires.
How does PrepRoom handle 30-year retention on exposure records?
OSHA 1910.1048 requires formaldehyde exposure records and related medical surveillance to be retained for 30 years after employment ends. PrepRoom enforces this with a database-level constraint — records cannot be deleted, only archived into cold storage. You never need to remember to save them. When you close the business or transfer ownership, PrepRoom generates a compliance-ready export packet.
What is the MEQ (Medical Exam Questionnaire) and how is it protected?
OSHA 1910.1048 requires periodic medical surveillance for employees exposed to formaldehyde above the action level. PrepRoom stores MEQ responses in a dedicated, isolated partition — separate S3 bucket, independent encryption key. Not even the funeral home director can read another employee's medical file. Only the designated physician-of-record and the employee themselves have access. This isolation is enforced at the infrastructure layer, not just the application layer.
How does PrepRoom handle the FTC Funeral Rule price list?
The FTC Funeral Rule requires funeral homes to provide a General Price List (GPL) to anyone who asks in person, and to itemize services clearly on statements of funeral goods. PrepRoom includes a price-list module (currently behind a feature flag for early access) where you enter your prices once and PrepRoom generates a compliant GPL you can print and hand to families. Contact us to join the early access group.
How long does it take to get inspection-ready?
Most funeral directors complete initial setup in under 45 minutes. You enter your home's details, number of preparation room staff, and current product inventory. PrepRoom generates your formaldehyde written program, BBP Exposure Control Plan, and Hazard Communication plan. Training records, exposure monitoring logs, and price lists are ready to pull up on any device when an OSHA investigator or state mortuary board inspector arrives.
Can PrepRoom help if we receive an OSHA citation or state board letter?
Yes. PrepRoom gives you a dated, auditable paper trail: when programs were created, when training was completed, when exposure monitoring was conducted. This documentation is the difference between a citation standing and being reduced or dismissed. We also help you generate an Abatement Plan — the formal response OSHA requires when you've accepted a citation and need to show corrective action.
How does employee training tracking work?
PrepRoom tracks required training per employee and per role. Assign formaldehyde awareness, BBP, and HazCom training modules. Record completions with digital signatures. PrepRoom flags upcoming renewals (OSHA requires annual BBP refreshers, and initial formaldehyde training before first exposure). When inspectors ask for training records, you export a signed, dated attendance roster in PDF in under a minute.
Is my employees' health data secure?
Yes. Preparation-room employee health data (MEQ responses, medical surveillance results) is stored in a dedicated, access-controlled partition separate from all other home data. Row-level security is enforced at the database layer — not just in application code. All data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3). PrepRoom does not sell or share your data with any third party.
Can I cancel my subscription at any time?
Yes. Cancel anytime from Account Settings → Billing. You keep full access through the end of your paid period — no cancellation fee. After cancellation you can export all records (programs, training logs, exposure records) as PDFs and CSV files. The 30-year retention obligation does not disappear when you cancel, so we make export easy.
